Hi guys ,,just startin me own little plumbing company ...any ideas how to increase my work load.i just seem to be getting little old ladys wanting her new washer plumbin in or garden taps ... :x ::::

rite im gettin the jist of this ....take the smaller work but look at the bigger picture?

Treat these people as Gods. They know other little old ladies, they have families, they sometimes have home helps. Word soon gets around.

thats the kind of person who i make no money off . but i make a fortune off there advertising(word of mouth)

Like the guys say great advertising.
When I started out I was delivering 1000 A5 leaflets a month with very little response,.
Now through word of mouth and been recommended onto the good tradesmen website I have to turn the little jobs down as my installation diary is full.
Most people now use the internet so look into advertising on it and at least have an e mail address on your cards.
It takes time do not mind the governements lies about plumbers in desperate need earning £100,000 a year (I wish)
Good luck on your business and always remember treat your customers like you would want to be treated, it may cost you and take the job longer sometimes but your reputation is only enhanced.

my old dad (godresthissoul) had a saying "dont turn down a tenner but think about a grand"

what the silly old sod meant is people who spend a tenner will return to you time and time again but the people who spend a grand are few and far between and their expectations are, quite rightly, very high.

as solo says the lil old lady is your bread and butter and will get you loads more work.

and as fluff and fitz say word of mouth is the best advert but takes time.

if you are tight for work try subbing to some bigger companies, its hard graft and not much cash but it keeps you going and gets you meeting people.

good luck, we all had it hard to start with

Decide how much you want to earn. Remember it's a very full time job, you never stop thinking about it if you're self employed. Compare that with being a shop assistant... Pensions, holidays, sick pay...
If you wat to earn £30k a year, you have to clear a grand a week after your overheads.

Chap in my road has been plumbing a few months and does well, but he's bright and able. After 3 months he was charging £320 a day fitting bathrooms.

All plumbs bright and able , all Polski`s great and small........all plumbs wise and wonderful ...they work for bugger all
