No need, I am right and you are wrong. the relaxed meaning was so that the ignorant may be excused for calling it the union jack who are not in the know and know what the difference between land and sea flags. You will rarely hear a sailor call it the union jack when refering to the flag flying on land. So for those less educated they relaxed the terminology to allow those types to call it the union jack anywhere to save them from embarasment.

Whatever the reasons are for any changes of acceptable names over time, not one of them is susceptible to you denying that it happened.

Things change. In this case 200 years ago. Are there any other changes in language over time you think you can validly, and without looking like a complete pr@, pretend didn't really happen?
