I was asked if I would certify the installation of a shower that a handyman had done in a rental holiday home.

I do not normally like to take on this type of job, but said I would take a look.......

Wheres the switch? The cables seem to go along that cupboard and out the side.

What Mira is that? Just fited a Mira Escape myself. That looks very similar, but seems to lack the thermostatic mechanism.

It's a mira sport.

Rewired the lot today and fitted a new CU. Sorted main eq bonding too.

I ddn't take a shot of the CU - he had taken the cable as far as the 4 way wylex and given up.

I renewed the run from the CU to the loft, via the cupboard. Fitted a pull cord, and pulled the cable from the shower up into the loft.

The switch is by the airing cupboard, in the bathroom. The shower is one end of the cupboard, the switch the other.

the plumbing is just as bad, why didn't he use the top entry and lose all those elbows.

Re the cable to the switch, I know its shoddy but is it contravening anything with the outer jacket being removed but enclosed in trunking? bit like singles in conduit. (if thats what it is)

Sorry to hi-jack your thread but i found this amusing when i went to do a kitchen re-wire at a council house recently in liverpool:

Its just like mine, the top entry is just for the electrics, you'd struggle to get water through there too. Thats why the bottom left section of the back is removeable.

The trunking was two pieces glues together. No back. It just lifted off the cables.

You can top entry the pipe - the bottom bit is removable to get to the compression fitting nut on the inlet with your spanner. The pipe can come down into the compression fitting.

Why use plastic pipe clips too? Use chrome to 'try' to make it look neater, and then use plastic clips!
