Thanks for your help, will order a new sython. If it helps great, if not it will have to wait until we do other work in the bathroom

One more question a quick look on eBay shoes a big price difference between different ones, are there some which are better than others

Why not just swap the Dudley Turbo you have with a new one if it's faulty, you can do it without dismantling the toilet, and with only a few tools.

From the first pic the cistern looks full and there is a new linkage to the syphon but the handle looks to be pointing down , that could mean that the handle operation is not enabling the syphon to fully discharge the water.
The link between the handle and syphon may be too long or just change the way the rod sits through the square plastic lever arm, just a case of trial and error until you get the flush you like.

If you pop the yellow pin out of the syphon you will be able to remove the part with the diaphragm and linkage. Do this with the ball valve propped up or water off. Check for any obstructions. Sometimes the diaphragm breaks up and a part of it can obstruct the path to the pan. Either that or one of those "water-saving" bags. If no problems are evident then it may still be this but the blockage is further down than you can see so perhaps a bit of hose pipe shoved into your hoover outlet (hold a bit of rag around the joint to seal) and pushed down the leg may fish something out.

If you do decide to get a new syphon, the height is important. The replacement should be the same height as your existing. Just to confirm, when you flush, the cistern does empty apart from the last 1" or so?
