Population control

If we do need to reduce the population in the near future, then I propose a different approach than yet another world war, a lab created virus or even a slight change in climate.

Let's suspend the rule of law for a few days. Let's have anarchy reign & let's see whose fit enuff to survive it.

Win Win situation. Society rids itself of those weak & feeble folk who don't enjoy the protection of a clan , the gobshoites & the wrong 'uns will be run down & tossed across the baying masses from bayonet to bayonet. Soshal meedya might go quiet for the duration, but hey what the heck, we will rid ourselve's of very many problems . . . !

Romans beat you to it.

Decimation (Latin: decimatio; decem = "ten") was a form of Roman military discipline in which every tenth man in a group was executed by members of his cohort. The discipline was used by senior commanders in the Roman Army to punish units or large groups guilty of capital offences, such as cowardice, mutiny, desertion, and insubordination,

A cohort (roughly 480 soldiers) selected for punishment by decimation was divided into groups of ten. Each group drew lots (sortition), and the soldier on whom the lot of the shortest straw fell was executed by his nine comrades, often by stoning, clubbing, or stabbing.

I agree with JohnD. Something needs to be done. They can stop all the Live Aid nonsense. Sending food only worsens the situations. It's contraceptives that are needed.

The wealthier people become the less they procreate. Raising living standards lowers feritility rates.

Population still not an issue, no matter how many times it gets brought up here. Birth rates are dropping on average, and some countries are in decline.

We have a good handle on where we'll be in the next few decades population wise, and its even better than we recently thought.

Don't Panic.

Too late. Pitchfork brigade is out.

That's true. But unfortunately, raising living standards in places like Africa isn't going to happen. Countries like South Africa and Zimbabwe demanded the reins of power be removed from the white man after he bequethed them higher living standards and a modern infrastructure. Unfortunately, as expected, these countries have gone into reverse and are vying for failed state status. There's no hope for these countries, because no matter how bad their white rulers were painted, they will always be replaced with with corrupt, incompetent black dictators who obviously despise their own people. China clawed it's way up, India is trying; Africa - not a chance.

One day we will find the right balance, and population will stabilise. It will probably be very messy, expensive and brutal. But there is only a finite number of people that can live on the planet. It could well be many times more than we have now though

What a credit you are to the UK.

How proud everybody must be to live in a country with people like you in it.

Your tolerance, your compassion, your understanding are a model to us all.

Not.

Tolerance? Compassion? What a load of gush! Everything I said is true and has happened. It maybe uncomfortable for a blinkered, lefty liberal luvvie - but facts often are uncomfortable.

It's unfortunate that hard truths send you into a fit of the vapours, petal. Maybe you would like all of life's realities to be sugar coated for you?

well in the past we've always had wars keeping population levels down,

also illness would steady population quite a bit also but these days medicine is so good people are living longer,

i'm not sure we will stabilise in population,

Africa is a mixed bag. There are areas where living standards have improved, and of course, corruption is an issue (like in many under-developed countries), but things are improving.

It will take time, but the population will stablise even there, but will likely get to about 4bilion first.

Meanwhile, there was a report out last year which suggested that the world population could peak sooner than the UN has previously estimated.

I read thatThe entire population of the world could fit into Loch Ness 15 times over.
Why the entire population of the world would want to do that was not explained.

There will be a time when we just can't feed everybody. Let's hope nobody invents soylent green.
