Any recommendations for a portable work light for domestic use? Something that will help me with painting ceilings. LED or mains power and wattage.

Have you got any cordless tools already?

For years I used halogen lights on tripods. I liked the fact that I could angle the head to create a shadow line for cutting in. The downside was that they pumped out a lot of heat- not nice in the summer.

She who no longer talks to me purchased a really nice but stupidly expensive Festool LED light and the tripod for me

I am not a fan of working under LED light, the strobing effect really annoys me when sanding. The Festool one has no strobing but costs over £500 (including the tripod). Regrettably, you cannot tilt the head. I find myself having to twist the unit and move it up or down to get the shadow line.

The 150w halogen ones used to be about £25 (pre Covid) but most companies now focus on the LED versions. If you don't mind the additional heat, perhaps look on eBay.

i have 2 off these these from wickes when on offer
I thinkk they where £12 each on an offer if purchased 2

I have used these in the garage when doing DIY cutting things , and also in the loft when going through all the wiring - really good and used these a LOT and probably my more goto lights

and
this from toolstation again when on offer - around £33 ish
again used in Garage and in house when painting

I also had a cordless light - which i have used to sort out toilet wastes and cistern - really good cordless - BUT the light does not last long - maybe 30mins - 1 hour ish
again when it came up for offer - cant remember from where now - £8ish

Cordless stuff is so good these days
If i hadn't git anything Cordless or my Milwaukee stuff was stolen. Then Id go no further in experience than Ryobi.

They do such a range in tools. And id say their lights are as good as the rest of their tools.

whilst i am a great advocate for ryobi and have many off there worklights between around 100 to 3000 lumins
i do NOT buy anything unless its around 40% off
on line they are a closed shop with cbs power tools Peterborough as ryobi direct

and ryobi uk as the actual ryobi site

This is good if you want an all in one. Two settings and a nice diffused white light which removes lots of shadows

This one from ryobi is my favourite. Equivalent to 100w bulb, but surprisingly bright and nice wide even light area. Also easy to position and angle the light.
