I have just had a new ceiling put in the kitchen and have had the cable from old spotlights run through it in order to fit new downlights. The cable is in roughly the correct position to within a centimeter or so.

My question is how to accurately measure the holes for the new lights so that they are exactly in line. I have 6 lights to go in - a rectangular pattern with lights at all four corners and another 2 halfway down the longest sides (hope that makes sense).

I was told not to measure distances from the walls in case they are uneven.

Can anyone help?
