Hi, looking for a bit of advice with regards to the above combi boiler. We moved into our house in Feb this year then two months later the boiler needed a new iron heat exchanger due to the metal cracking. Bearing in mind it was only 4 years old I was pretty surprised. Should this have happend and do you think we will be able to get any money back from the manufacturers to reimburse the repairs, all £450? Don't know the legalities/ warrenties on boilers, but i certainly think they should last longer than this.

However the problems don't stop there. Following the above repairs the heating was switched off for the summer, until yesterday...when the boiler started making some very loud noises and water was leaking up stairs from a pipe leading into the water tank.

Any advice?

Yes stop calling it a combi........ because it isnt!

AFAIK you dont have a leg to stand on, As far as the manufacturer is concerned it is out of guarantee. Any re-imbursement will be as a gesture of good will.
Don't mention the leak on your pipe work as that is not their fault at all!

AS for loud noises .... That could be your pump stuck. A gentle tap may get it working failing that put a towel under the pump , remove the big screw from the face of the pump ..
Some water should dribble out. Then poke a screwdriver in there to make sure the shaft rotates freely, then replace the big screw.

Nearly all the heat exchanger failures are attributable to insufficient flow or incorrect water treatment by the installer.

I went to a one year old Potty Kingfisher with a leaking HE . Trouble is I know the installer! Had to advise it failed due to incorrect water treatment!

Hi all... I have a problem with my Suprima 30 as well. I've been reading all messages about this silly little boiler, and almost all information available here led me to believe that the problem comes from the dodgy PCB. The red LED keeps flashing and no matter how many times I try resetting, it wouldn't light up. The system is about 4-5 years old and it's been working just fine until yesterday. What surprised me most is that I could not find a water pressure gauge anywhere in the house. This is supposed to be somewhere on the boiler, but the only thing under the cover is the termostat dial and the reset button. The user guide mentions that the pressure gauge is under the lower cover, which is released by pulling forward at the base. But none of the covers can be opened?! The problem might just be low water pressure, and I don't want to spend a fortune on a replacement pcb. Of course, in that case the next challenge will be finding out how to recharge the water. Any ideas???

You need to look all over the house including the loft! It may NOT be a sealed system.

Look around the pump and particularly look for an orange round tank!

I will certainly check the loft today for the pressure gauge. But all the boilers/combies I used so far had this pressure gauge on them, so I thought this one would be the same. Calling a professional is mylast resort, as I wouldn't like to pay hundreds of £'s for something that might be as simple as turning a couple of taps! I had to call plumbers twice for other problems that I had in the past, and in both occasions they were unable to even identify the problems. Eventually I sorted out the problems myself, although I am a complete dummy in plumbing! I'm sure I was unlucky with my choice of plumbers, but because of these experiences I'd rather have a go at it myself first.

If the boiler isn't lighting up at all after resetting I think the problem may lay with the gas valve.

Ive never been to a heat exchanger leaking for any other reason than sludge and rust in the system due to no inhibitor being put in
anyway you should have called potterton first as we would have come and replaced the heat exchanger for £210 inc parts and vat you live and learn
