Potterton suprima 30

Hello,this is my first post so go easy on me!!

I have a Potterton suprima 30 boiler which has a fault.................
Sometimes it just doesn't decide to light & the red light flashes to indicate a fault,however sometimes it does light & then cuts out after a few seconds!!
You know when it hasn't lit because a "droning" noise can be heard,so i open the panel & press the reset button which can take as many as 8-10 presses before it re-lights itself,however sometimes the gas remains lit & sometimes cuts out again as above.
About 2 years i had the gas valve replaced & it seemed to be ok for a few months,but now it has developed this fault.
My father's friend is a corgi registered plumber however he says he's stumped on this one,Help!!!!!!

me thinks its pcb part number 5111603

if boiler is under 5 years old then this would cost £170.00 supplied and fitted by potterton themselves inclusive of vat and everything

Try the electrode lead first as it could be broken down at the electrode end.

Anyway i have a question............ the new modified type pcb 5111603,does it come with the electrode lead anyway or will i buy that seperately & if so is that a part i can obtain easily?
I was just going to buy a pcb you see & get someone to fit it for me hoping that would cure the fault.

Also where is the cheapest place to buy one,online or can i get it from a shop? I'm in the Liverpool area

they seem to be very cheap on E-bay and yes it does come with an electrode 2 in fact but only one is the correct one for your model

Yeah seen them Gaz.
Do you think i would be daft just to go out & buy a pcb? Seems to be the answer to me reading the other articles on here,or should i get anything checked first?

personally im seeing on average 10-15 suprimas a week and 90% of them are the pcbs it always is how old is your boiler whats the serial number

Hello Gaz,its been in the house since we bought it brand new in June 99....... so it's nearly 6 & 1/2 years old.
There are 2 numbers on the boiler,as follows:-

Boiler code no AHHN916 0392
G.C. no 41 607 75

yes so that tells me it was made in the 16th week of 1999 so ties up with what you are saying as i said before the pcb kit will definately sort it out

I think the inference is that the Suprima PCB is not very reliable then?

Tony don't just drop a bombshell on us just like that ,if its not a new board and its giving the intermittent reset fault it will be knackered. I'm going round now replacing version 2 boards than are starting to break down after I put them in a couple of years ago as replacements for version 1's.
