Further to my origonal post, BG have been to replace gas valve, baffles and burner gasket. bad enough i thought but the guy said i needed a new burner at an additional £231.
I have the feeling i have been tucked up.
Anyone give me some advice????

and if it didnt solve the fault why have you not asked for your money back?

i'd be worried now. ive been in a similar position with one of these death traps. the only way i could get the whistling to disappear on both of them was to reduce the burner pressure to below its minimum pressure. i couldnt do that anyway so it went to the manufacturers, they said new boiler.
