Please help , I have a powermax 155 boiler. I have hot water and no central heating. The boiler is not igniting when the room stat is calling for heat. The 10 sec reset ignition sequence has no effect. I was wondering if the cold start stat on the boiler is defective. There seems to be power going in but no power coming out. Should there be ? Dont know what else to try . This is desperate time's with the snow.... :(

There are 2 reset buttons near the fan, have you tried them?. Is the boiler doing anything?

Unfortuately yes , they seem fine. The boiler had been working fine . I switched it off for 3 days when i went away for xmas and then put it back on and nothing. !!!

It should take about 30mins before the heating starts from cold as it needs to warm up the thermal store first. Have you left the heating and hot water switched on at the clock and stat for that amount of time?. When the cylinder reaches 60 deg it sould then switch the cold stat across and start up the pump for heating.

I did leave the hot water on timed and that has kept working fine. I left it on just to eliminate any pipes freezing up . I have been playing about with it since 26/12 and still dont have any joy. The hot water is working fine !!

If you have hot water then the boiler is fine. The boiler does not neccessarily need to ignite with a call for heat from the thermostat unless the water temperature in the tank is ok so dont worry about that at the moment. I hate to state the obvious but have you checked the central heating pump? It is the one on the left hand side. Check it has power to it when the heating is selected on the programmer and the thermostat is calling for heat by checking the connections for 230-240 volts with a multimeter. Additionally drain some water off of the system and vent the rads before and after heat up to check for air locks.

The central heating pump has probably seized try undoing the silver screw in the middle of the big round bit on the pump on the left hand side of the appliance and spinning the center of the pump (beware as water will come out of here and could be HOT). If this doesn't work and you have power to the pump get a new one. If no power to pump probably the cold start stat (call heateam 08706096096. or a powermax specialist)
