Hi guys,

Just moved into a flat (built in 2005) to find a powermax 155x sitting in it. I've done basic research online and so far understand that it's a tricky and odd boiler with an identity crisis that is a thermal store AND a combi (sort of).

As some of you will know, on the boiler itself there's a 'Store' on/off switch and a 'radiator' on/off switch. And then of course a remote control with options 'OFF', 'ALL DAY', and 'AUTO' for both CH and HW.

So then, if I turned both 'Store' and 'Radiator' switches off on the boiler, and had AUTO on on the remote, will that effectively kill the thermal store function, and only act as a combi?

But then AUTO on the remote doesn't really mean 'hot water on demand', as it appears that all that AUTO means is that it follows the programmed timer. So if I needed hot water outside of the pre-set hours, will I get it? will the water still be stored, though not maintained at a constant temperature since 'Store' is off? I'm really confused!

Oh I should also mention that there is ALSO a temperature dial in the living room. What does THAT do???

It's bothering me because when I first went to see the flat in the summer I noticed that the boiler was emitting a lot of heat (probably because of thermal storage) and it seemed rather wasteful that a boiler that is allegedly a combi needs to be running when no heating or hot water was in use.

I appreciate your help.

Lee

edit: If I'm not making any sense, just simple advice on the optimum setting (on the boiler AND remote) would be helpful. Thanks!

Go to the baxi website and download the manual...this will tell you how/what each function does.....the dial downstairs is almost certainly your room stat.......nothing to do with the boiler (directly) it will just shut off your boiler when your room hits temp.
