ran out of oil, so got some more oil but when I press the reset button boiler will fire up for about 20 seconds then stop any ideas whats wrong ??

Help its very cold

Turn the valve on the tank off, or the boiler if you have one, disconnect the flexible hose and run some oil into a vessel using the valve to control the flow.

Reconnect the hose and turn the valves back on, it should fire up.

Do not keep trying to light it otherwise as you'll burn the pump out.

Dont some pumps have an allen screw for bleeding out the air?

Tony

They all have a means to vent the pump Tony, but it can take ages and you have to know which nut to unscrew.

What type of tank & oil feed?

If it's a plastic one where the oil feed is taken from the top of the tank then you will almost certainly need an oil boiler engineer who has a manual pump to purge the air from oil line.

thanks for the replys guys, it has a Gold 50 pump next to the boiler with 1, 2 and 3 sections and a turn screw is this what you are on about, when I go to fire the boiler up it goes to fire up then after about 10 seconds it makes a clicking sound then cuts off after another 10 seconds any ideas ??

Thanks

Rob

Don't you read posts Rob.

I assume you mean the burner is locking out because it has no oil.

If you keep pushing the red button you will **** the burner pump up.

Yes I do read post, I have not tried to fire up since yesterday, but I have no clue as which valves to bleed etc.

It is a cast iron oil drum outside that leads into the house at ground floor level I have oil as I have just bought some as I ran out on thursday the new oil was delivered Friday but I only tried to fire up Saturday, everything was fine until I ran out of oil.

The lock out light is on when I tried yesterday to fire up and comes back on when it fails to work, any advice would be welcome.

Thanks

Rob

the gold 50 pump your on about is for the central heating circuit.the pump you need to bleed is on the burner itself. usually will have danfoss written on it.and a flexi hose comming off it to the oil line.

I have taken the side panel off and have found the name danfoss this is where the reset button is I can now see a valve with what looks like an allen key opposite about 12 inches away is this what i need to try and bleed if so which way do I turn it.

Apologies for being some what green to these things the reason is I am.

But I really appreciate any help and thanks for all thoses for have sent in contributions

I have turned the the screw using the allen key and it fired up but as I was turning the screw back it died again, I am very close to sorting it any ideas.

Thanks in advance

Rob

I do seriously recommend that you get an OFTEC engineer to look at the boiler. You are going at it in a very haphazard manner which could makes things far worse, especially if you start fiddling with control unit which you clearly do not have a basic understanding of.
