Anyone see the article on the horror that is internet forums advising people on DIY electrics?

Thoughts?

We offer better advice than the out of date DIY books in the local libraries.......and thats where they would end up looking if the WEB did not exist.

....and IMO the advice here is better than you'll find in the PE mag because we're not trying to sell something.

I must admit, I size posters up and try to ascertain their capabilities and I think many of you do, that competantpersons link gets some use. More than once I've started a reply and thought, "hold on, someone attempting this should not need to ask a DIY forum for advice"

I tend to do the same ..but then you have to remember they'll probably do the work any way so add a little prompt along the lines of "think about getting a pro in"

I agree with all above. Any one seeking advice if not competent is filtered out into the 'get a qualified person in' category. And any one giving advice to the 'danger people category' is often shot down very soon. Keep up the good work guys or this place might not exists. :(

Could you scan and post it?

It would make interesting reading, or possibly an even more interesting basis for a letter to them when put in context with the recent letter from a "professional electrician" who doesn't believe in being registered, doesn't believe in being insured, doesn't believe in proper testing and certification, doesn't believe in keeping up with changes in the regulations.....
