How do we know there's no neutral? - The picture doesn't show enough.
We can only see two brown wires, we can't see the cables emerging from the switch pattress box.
The two brown wires do have writing on them.
Fairly unusual to see two browns - twin T+E not as common as one would like.
Is this wiring in conduit by any chance? - If so, getting a neutral there may be easy.
