We've had our Springer Spaniel almost a week now. He was rescued from a pound and is estimated to be 2 to 3 years old. I've never known a dog fart so much. The amusing thing is, he always appears shocked when he lets rip as if he doesn't know where the noise has come from. He sure knows where the smell is coming from as he gets up and moves, leaving the rest of us to suffer. If his flatluence doesn't subside soon I'll be introducing him to a large cork!

Try changing his diet Solo
We had same trouble and a change of dog-food to more basic type (without gravy) worked wonders

Change of diet I'd say

What are you feeding him on?

I've got both of my spaniels on James Wellbeloved and the difference in their general wellbeing is quite startling (were on Bakers), also it's the only dog food I could find that used proper listed ingredients (lamb, turkey etc.) not 'proteins from animal origin'.

Tinned food has always made my dogs take off on a plume of exhaust gases!

Charcoal biscuits can be useful if it's a chronic problem.

He's currently on Wagg Complete. I'll look into it's ingredients re: the proteins from animal origin bit and change if necessary. May stock up on charcoal biscuits as well. At least knowing that he is the culprit has spared me from the looks of disgust from the family. The plus side is I can now squeeze one out and blame the dog.

Hi Solo
We also have a Springer Liver & White about 3 1/2 years old.
He is fed on Wagg with gravy & a bit of left overs. I have never heard or smelt him pump.
Have you got him Insured for vets bills??
Enjoy him

Solo, I think some dogs are just predisposed to farting. Our previous Rotty, Zeus hardly ever broke wind & even if he did it was one of the usual pffsst noises. But our current Rotty Roxy could Guff for England  And they're not just quiet ones either, they sound like someone has really put some time and effort into them to make sure they're heard

It's not just the protein in dog food that can be a bit sus - a lot of foods contain bulk filler ingredients that swell in the stomach and are less easily digestible.

Both our dogs have had noticeable improvements in health, coat glossiness (they now look like they've been polished!) and reduced and better formed 'output' at the other end.

I don't want to be an evangelistic bore about James Wellbeloved but I really have found it to be excellent and well worth the additional money it costs.

ive fed my dog on iams dried since she was a puppy. she has always looked super fit on this food.
ive recently been told that my dog has cancer in her lip and hasnt got long to live.
i thought i would give her a couple of weeks of chum, chocolate (little bits) and sleeping where shes not supposed to before she has to go!

she thinks its christmas because she has had tinned dog food.

point of this is she now stinks, she is exciteable and she is starting to pile on weight, all this in two weeks.

dried for me. i was advised by the vet and it has proved to be just how she suggested it would.
ps (chocolate amounts to about one button a day, so its not that)

Sorry to hear about your dog AtoZ. We had to have our German Shepherd put to sleep on Xmas Eve. Put a big dampener on Xmas.

thank you
ironic because she seems really fit and alert.

shes had a carbon fibre ligament in the past and a £4000 back operation just last year (she burst two discs jumping down the stairs)
she has just got back on form from that; and now a silly little mark on her lip will finish her off.
it is hard to take as shes only six years old.

anyway, she was nice and calm on that dry food, defo worth a try if you own a manic breed of dog.

if you've owned a dog then you know how im feeling about this but im sure you would want to know that the dog is 'pig in s**t' happy; and has no idea whats going on.

i will get another dog soon :)

Did you say he was rescued from a 'pound'?

What do you expect from a £ shop?

A size 12 boot turned our dog into a blacksmith.

As soon as he farted he made a bolt for the door. (yeah I know it's an old schoolboy joke).

Aww, AtoZ, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. Is there nothing they can do for her? I know a girl that got radio and chemo therapy for her Rottie when he had cancer. It's so sad when their time is up.

I'm another James Wellbeloved fan (well, not me personally you understand!). Our older dog was orignally on Bakers (before that he was on supermarket own brand when he came from the pound) and he could fart for Scotland and he'd poop 6 and 7 times a day. Changed him to JWB, very rarely farts (unless he's had chicken) and poops twice, maybe three times a day. It's free from additives and crap that gets put into cheap alternatives. Burns is another good dried food which is again, natural and contains no additives.

My now departed cat lived 17 years on Hill's Science Diet.

Good stuff and very good for the kidneys.
