Question re Modern Toilets

Hi,

I've been out all day around many bathroom showrooms trying to find a toilet we like Sounds silly, I know...

I have a few reservations about modern toilets...namely the push button flush mechanism and the size of the exit pipe to the u-bend. I've done a bit of research this evening and have found the new regulations that require the limited flush capacity. That's all fine; What worries me is that my experience of these button flush toilets has been - lets say frustrating to date. They never seem to have enough "power" to provide a decent flush. This, coupled with the fact that modern toilets seem to have ever-decreasing u-bend diameters makes me worry that I will spend my life with a plunger at the ready and be best mates with the local DynoRod.

It is true to say that not so much water is used on a modern flush. However, most of the time it will suffice, and this will more than compensate for the amount of water used on the occasional "double" flush.

Blocked pipes is rarely an issue, any more than it used to be.

Cheap ones seem to suffer with poor flush performance more than the more expensive ones, make sure the flush has a 2" outlet from the cistern (some are only 1 1/2"), buy a decent make and you should be OK

Well, fitting my own house, it's a good old fashion pan, cistern with handle and 9 litres of flush all the way.

I don't think we should get too worried about water shortages in this part of the world.

Then there's the regs.......!

Thanks - I'll check on the one I've just put a deposit on! (Homebase..) Can you recommend a "decent" make?

Also, start drinking draught Bass. Floaters will be a thing of the past. Also does away with the need for an alarm clock!

A common misconception!!! More fibre will actually make the problem worse!

I've installed Kohler WCs, specifically the Kohler Patio, in both my en suite and the main bathroom, these will often flush away number twos on the short flush, I see they've now released an 'eco' option that's a 4L full flush and a 2.6L short flush, I have the regular one which is 6/3 but I'd have thought the 4/2.6 would work OK. Downstairs I've got a Twyford Galerie Optimise Corner Toilet, again this flushes very well, so I'd recommend either of those.
