Yes it's an old imperial cable of approx 258mm². As it fed lots of 3ph motors and balanced loads the designer must have assumed there was no need for a full size neutral.

Early sixties as well so semi-conductor drives were a while off the prominence they have today so little threat of heavy neutral currents due to 3rd harmonics.

Well done to Adam as he was almost spot on.

Here is that armoured cable with the 1/2 csa neutral.

Its not that clear but the neutral is on the right.The cable comes down into this spreader box at the rear, and then back up into the switch fuse.

And yes those terminals are live (The world of journalism is dangerous! :wink: )
 
Ahh proper lug connections :lol:
Couldn't beat the time spent on fitting those.

Has that cable been close to it's ccc as it looks like some of the bitumen has dripped onto the yellow lug :?:
