I'm replacing some recessed light bulbs. The ones that are currently installed are R-40, but at the hardware store I see many more choices of BR-40 bulbs. Are the two interchangeable? (I.e., can I use BR-40s in an R-40 application?) If not, what are the important differences between the two bulb types? Thanks in advance.

br40's are the energy efficient replacement of r40's you should use them where ever possible.. br40s have an extra bubble or reflector surface to produce more light output with less wattage...
