If you haven't got Fernox in the system it will be oxidising inside, which is creating a build up of hydrogen gas in the rad.

Try leaving two iron nails in pots of water, one with and the other without Fernox and see the difference.

Are you able to post pictures of the pipework around your pump? Might help to explain why BG wanted to alter it...

Use a magnet around the pipes in question and see if there is any attraction of the magnet to the copper pipe and come back to the forum.
If it is hydrogen then with care you can light the gas to prove it. Vent the rad into an inverted can and then apply a match to the can and see if it "pops"
Do not put leak sealer in a system that is water tight.

Old open vent systems are often blocked. Your installer probably didn't do a good job cleaning the system when you got the new boiler.

If your feed and expansion tank is hot with the open vent running you would be wise to replace the pipework because this will oxygenate the system and cause the rads to start leaking. You could try adding a cleanser and mains water flush to keep the cost down[see toms tips on u tube].IF your cold feed and expansion pipes are installed below the pump if you replace them it is recommended that the tees are within 150 mm of each other
