Rattling immersion heater.

Yes, our immersion heater rattles when it's switched on. I guess it's some kind of harmonic vibration of the element inside the tube.

Ever seen this before and does it matter?

Oh, it was replaced about 6 months ago.

Probably arcing due to loose connection. Worst that could happen is it burns your house down. Turn it off and check it or get it checked.
 
I've also seen this, though it wasn't making any noise, you could see the threaded cylinder port rocking when the element was on. This was also a new element. The element was swapped again as the movements were quite strong flexing the copper. The second new element was fine.
