This conflicts with the official statement: "With Ms Rayner's full cooperation and assistance, I have reviewed relevant documentation from the property transaction. It was a simple mistake, cause by poor advice, then resolved afterwards. Mad you have to lose your job and career over it.

Massive things are going on which are not yet understood. There will no doubt turn out to be multiple causes. Some economic but some sociological and some psychological. Voters no longer want to face hard choices and won't vote for politicians who tell the truth. Deep down people might actually want a war.

Immigrants were made out to be the problem, and Brexit was going to cure it. But didn't, and it's worsened since then.

When they were in power with a tiny majority, they all aligned in fear of losing their jobs, when they had a bigger majority they relaxed and started infighting. Do you think they think their leader is the one they want in the next election? Starmer's govt are no different.

You missed a bit from the article you linked to which goes on to say….
‘in those two instances, that advice was qualified by the acknowledgement that it did not constitute expert tax advice and was accompanied by a suggestion, or in one case a recommendation, that specific tax advice be obtained; and
d) if such expert tax advice had been received, as it later was, it would likely have advised her that a higher rate of SDLT was payable.’
Quite important extra bit of information that changes the conclusion. She simply didn’t do proper due diligence.
