My Daughter has just brought her fiirst house. It is an old (c1880) cottage style end terrace.

The house needs a complete re wire, including consumer unit. What are the legal requirments for a DIY rewire. I am an experienced DIYer. I have done loads of electrical work over the years with no disasters.

Would electrical firms inspect/certificate the work after the re wire?

Thanks

For England it is now a requirement of part p that if you are going to do it yourself you should contact your borough council building control before you start work and they will oversee it i.e. at first and second fix stages and inspection / testing. Be aware they will charge you £££ for the privilege.
