Recommended Replacement for a T6160 Honeywell Stat

Hi All,

I want to replace our standard (and old) Honeywell T6160 thermostat with a wireless one as the one we have currently is buzzing a lot which makes me think its probably on its way out, but it also in a stupid location (right next to the front door so it always thinks the house is cold).

Can anyone offer any advice on a suitable replacement unit? It needs to be simple to fit (although I won't be doing this myself!) and not too expensive.

for wireless room stat you need to run mains to the base unit and stat link from the boiler to the base unit.then stat can be fitted any convenient place.

The Honeywell DT92E is very good, or the Honeywell CM927, which is the programmable version.

If you decide on the DT92E, you will need four wires going to the receiver:

Permanent Live (from timer L terminal)
Neutral (from timer N terminal)
Timed Live (from Timer CH ON terminal)
Switched Live (to boiler)

The CM927 only requires three wires:

Permanent Live (from timer L terminal)
Neutral (from timer N terminal)
Switched Live (to boiler)

As you probably only have three wires going to the existing stat (ignoring any genuine earth wire), the CM927 is probably easier to fit.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I am a little confused by what you have said regarding the wires though as I only see 2 wires connected to the existing unit! I have included a copy of the wiring diagram that is on the inside of the box and have highlighted the only two pins that have wires in them (3 & 1).

Can I still use a Wireless box with this layout?

Are you sure there isn't a wire connected to terminal 2? It's not unheard off, particularly if you have a very old system - over 25-30 years old - as neutral connections were not required on very old thermostats. It could be that, whoever installed the T6101 didn't bother to install the neutral as it was too much bother.

If you definitely do not have the neutral, you have two options: run a new cable or, find another location for the receiver. Whichever you chose, there must be a neutral connection as well as the two, or three, live connections given in my previous post.
