Hi chaps and chappesses.

We are having a few problems with advertising companies. We are looking to increase our service engineer numbers by another 5.

In a nutshell we are a service agent for a major uk boiler manufacturer, we have secured a large contract and we need to recruit some engineers.

We have tried advertising with the usual companies i.e. Monster, jobsite etc. Unfortunately we have had a poor response.(The salary and benefits are excellent by the way)

We are looking at national papers namely the Mirror and The Sun to place ads on their Thursday engineering section. Has anybody got any experience of doing this? were the results worth the cost (2.5k).

Has anyone got any advice as to where Gas service engineers look for jobs?

Many thanks In advance.

You could try advertising your jobs directly on this forum, for free! You'd have to do it rather obliquely of course, pretending you weren't really advertising directly but simply seeking advice on what medium to use. Having said that I doubt if the Mods are so naive as to let you get away with it!

lynda, moderator.

er, no you can't, sorry

I would disagree with you!! Most of the guys on here are self employed/already employed with good companies.

Advertising is VERY expensive, we have already spent/wasted alot of money and time. Before we spend/waste again it seems quite prudent to ask if anyone has done this before and what medium was used to give the best results.

Would get away with saying.

Send me an email from my profile

  loads of RGI's 8) 8)

Oh dear, I see we are not going to get any sensible replies.

I am not asking if anyone wants a job!

It is not the fact that people do not apply- in fact quite the opposite!!!

The problem is targetting experienced gas service engineers with a proven track record.

I suspect they are all happily employed or self employed.

Does anyone know of a recruitment company that specialises in the gas industry?

Thanks for your constructive comments Blob Dole.

Actually it is nothing as you describe. I won't bore you with the facts as I am sure you are well out of our league. We just could not afford an engineer of your obvious superior calibre.

Again thankyou Blob and I have taken your points on board.

My pleasure you spunging leach go and get your own hands dirty you lazy lay about.

THIS KIND OF CORRUPTION REALY ****SSSESSS ME OFF
Whats the name of your company are you just yet another recuitment agency living of the backs of others.

I`m not surprised you are having problems. I wouldn`t work for any company as a service engineer, & any gas bloke worth his salt won`t, WHY? I`ll tell you...
Running around all day like the rent man making your own appointments. Getting paid about 6 quid to service a gas fire, tenner for a boiler. Having to do about twenty services a day to make a decent wage. Making big fat company even fatter by racing around, taking short cuts on quality of service i.e bending closure plate back on gas fire, lashing in smoke bomb. Sweep out build up of soot in builder`s opening? Nah, it`s not quite up to the spigot yet!
I blame greedy companies who turn a blind eye to the service guy booking 20 services a day ( impossible ) & then sacking the poor engineer doing 6 or 7 properly & making about 70 to 80 quid.
BTW I`m not a service engineer but the poor sod who used to traipse around after them mopping up their shoddy work before doing my own job.( installer).
Good luck with your search.
PS ( no offence to all you excellent service engineers out there )

Well said Bamber,
the sooner these companys are out of business the better even CORGI turn a blind eye to this corruption.

and another thing its about time the BBC did a programme about this scam called rough contractors

Completely out of order Bob.Dole

Had you taken the effort to check you will see it's a ligitimate Company, under a contract for a major boiler manufacturer, asking a genuine question.

For the record we have been recruiting since Christmas, O yes plenty of 10 weeks plumbers, sometimes you need skilled workmen in the field, and Not Chancers.[/b]

their all coming out of the woodwork now like worms are you also in on it also doitall.
and what the hell do you know about contracting skivvy

Well I must say there are some very bitter people about.

For the record Bob and anyone else we are Corgi registered. We do NOT do landlord cert's and our engineers most certainly DO NOT get 20 jobs a day.

In fact our average is just 6. Our engineers are paid a salary not per job.

We carry out warranty repairs and servicing work to domestic gas boilers only. Our commitment to our customers is we do not charge on any occasion unless we have successfully carried out a repair.

Our engineers are not given a time limit per job nor are they rushing around.

Our customers are given a fixed priced labour charge for all breakdowns and services. We do not operate an hourly charge routine.

The difficulty is that there are too many people like you Blob that are so uptight and ignorant of the facts. You have blindly slated our company and made assumptions with no intention to check your facts.

I rest my case.

Back to the original question- Maybe it is a sign of the times that true engineers are a thing of the past?

I didn`t mean to infer that this particular poster was anything but genuine, but it may be helpful to them to know the way in which some companies are viewed from an engineers point of view. I will gladly work for them for 25 quid an hour, if they don`t mind me doing 5 good, proper services a day.
I don`t think my phone will be leaping out of it`s cradle anytime soon though...
