Chris, I would like to see where I have criticised this particular company.
I did not say that you Bamber had criticised BDL's company. I referred to Bob Dunce's criticisms of BDL. I added "and co." to cover others who shared his view.

well christ my company is doing very well i earn around £1500 a week and the work is floading in and i work 4 hours a day hee hee heee.

this time next year i also will be employing monkeys for peanuts.

leave your number i will give you a call.

Bob, although I find most of your ramblings hilarious, I do detect a disturbing undercurrent of hostility & bitterness in your posts. Have you considered therapy? You are funny tho`

What you moaning at then?, I personally prefer having my work given to me and logging of at 5 to forget all about it. If someone else is making a living sorting it all for me that's great.

i am mearly stating my opion on other contractors and the corruption within the industry and warning all other good gas engineers who have morgages to ppay dont fall for these fly by night job scams as you will loose your house and that will make the bank manager very happy.

did you know their where more house reposesions from gas engineers than ALL THE OTHER TRADES PUT TOGETHER IN 2005.

Each to their own Ollski. When I worked for a company I found myself working up to 15 hours a day going to jobs that no-one had surveyed ( I`m an installer ) travelling miles & then having to pick up my own gear which was ordered in advance by some halfwit who `used to be on the tools` about one hundred years ago.Half of the gear wasn`t there, so I had to then ring up for more, wait for a fax,( more time wasting ) eventually get all I needed then travel to job. Arrive at job mid morning, drain down & remove boiler or start ripout for conversion, & spend rest of day/evening pulling my guts out trying to make up for lost time. Knock off at 5 o`Clock? Jammy so & so!..

must say that i do somewhat agree with BOB, not his manner, that sunnie work is tough.

but its unfair to suggest that all employers are out to get the poor little defensless service engineer, there are some nasty pieces of work out there.

BDL sounds like a good bloke running a good firm so good luck to him.

our gaffer advertised at the job centre and after getting loads of chaff, ******s with ACS and an atitude you know the type, he got some wheat two absolute stars with experiance and a work ethic, try that its free.

Actually i totally agree with that. OK so i dont make £1500+ (!) a week but im quite happy with that - i go home at 4-5 and forget about it all, having made a "reasonable" wage at the end of the week.

I do also see a general slating of us young guys btw- total respect to folks like Agile, etc who have obviously been in the game a long time and know their stuff but i can only assume that this wasnt learned overnight or at a college and has been learned over many years.

Experience is the name of the game chaps, were not all silly little boys who dont want to learn nor admit when we have made a royal f*** up of things. I'm sure "Mrs Smith" would rather her boiler got fixed by someone who may have had to take sum advice on the fault first before repairing rather than shelling out cash to someone who was guessing parts.

I don`t think young guys are being slated here, it`s the companys or people who take advantage of young guys with little experience. I think that is the point being made. No one has anything against being young ( Ah! the memories ) & I personally do not consider all young people `silly`. Quite the opposite. It doesn`t matter how long you have been in this game, you will learn something new every day. That`s the beauty of the job!

BDL you could try Gas-News site - there's a Classifieds section. Would be polite to check with the editor Les first.

Thanks Chris, I have a couple of interesting leads from this posting.

I think the Newspaper route will go on hold.

I will contact the gas news and pham tomorrow. Also thanks to John for the Argi lead.

Thanks for the replies and a special thanks to Blob. Your views are so refreshing.

Yeah sorry that kinda came out wrong - sounded good in my head lol !

I agree with ya though 100% - i have worked for companies where i was expected to have as much knowledge as "the guy next to me" who'd been in the industry 25 yrs+ and i was barely out of my apprenticeship at that time. Poor management and lack of understanding/proper training was the simple answer to that company though i still meet guys my age (24) who really dont seem interested at all, think they know it all, can cut corners to make money if they want, blah blah. Madness.

And yeah i do learn summit new everyday - went to an old Saunier Duval thingy today that was good fun to work on, the words leaking, teabag, and challenge came to mind  got it sorted though which was the main thing.

And good luck to BDL on the recruitment process. Out of interest what area is ur work mostly ?

I`m sure that with that kind of attitude, you will go far....

I have just been looking at BDLs website ( with a little help from my friends ) and notice that they offer training courses.

Obviously, one of the best recruitment areas is from ( good ) people who have been on their courses.

I fully understand the problem getting competent reliable and polite people to do a days work. Some of the best become self employed and then they can be as abusive to their customers as they wish. Being self employed is a carte blanche.

We also do some manufacturers warranty work and even though I have been on THREE customer care courses I do have to say that some of the customers do exercise my patience. There is even apparently a "fleece the tradesman" website!

Total agree Tony, However it would not be ethical to try and pinch trainees from this source.

Agile,

Yes we do have our own training facilities. We have a section which we lend to Atag Heating which houses 2 live boilers and several dead boilers to train on.

We also have a wide range of Ideal products (from current going back to the Minimiser)

To be honest we do not advertise this service at present (again looking for a Training Director to take control there). We currently train our own engineers in house to a level that would be needed to carry out warranty repairs.

If you need to find a tradesperson to get your job done, please try our local search below, or if you are doing it yourself you can find suppliers local to you.
