Yes, after World War II, Britain invited and encouraged immigration from Commonwealth countries to help address severe labor shortages and rebuild the country. Many who arrived during this period, particularly from the Caribbean, are known as the Windrush generation.

Reasons for the invitation
  • Labor shortages: Britain was left with a depleted workforce after the war and needed to rebuild its infrastructure and expand public services, such as the newly created National Health Service (NHS) in 1948.
  • Government recruitment drives: The government actively invited people to fill these vacancies. Recruitment campaigns were launched for specific jobs, with London Transport even directly recruiting staff from Barbados.
  • Post-war citizenship: The British Nationality Act of 1948 gave citizens of the Commonwealth the right to live and work in the UK. This made it easier for people from the West Indies, South Asia, and Cyprus to settle in Britain.

the state of the United Kingdom is the result of 14 years of Tory destruction built on top of Tory (and partly Blair) damage since 1980…..Brexit economic sanctions is just the cherry on top.

Sir K can’t sort that lot out in a year.

This country suffers terrible living standards due to wealth inequality…..asylum seekers are just a side issue
 
Some people want to blame other people because they earn less.
Some people think that those who pay the most tax should pay even more
Some people pretend that record illegal immigration is not a problem.

Meanwhile the tax payer is spending a fortune looking after these people.

It is a known fact that wealth inequality is the cause of poor living standards in the UK

Asylum seekers are just being used as a political tool by Reform, it’s not the major problem

Even the term "Wealth Inequality" is loaded with prejudice.
 
The term wealth inequality is relevant to a simple observation that folk like biking refuse to see.
