Regulations requiring conduit once more.

Re-introduce the regulations prohibiting the direct embedding of cables in walls and ceilings without the use of conduit.

In days gone by, the use of conduit often meant re-wiring was a simple exercise of pulling in the new cables to replace the old one, and reconnecting them all.

Providing you use a good quality of cable, it will be a long time before any rewiring is required. I am much happier chasing out, clipping cable and having the walls finished over them. And waving good-bye to an installation I will never need to rewire.

Besides that how many customers are going to pay for extra materials and labour cost?

rewiring was needed because VIR cables had a limited life.

rewiring now is usually because there aren't sufficient points, not that the wiring has degraded.

Many domestic electricians now wouldn't be even half-way competent to run conduit.

I didn't know there had ever been such a regulation.

Not if they'd used that cheap'n'nasty slip conduit hammered into ragged chases in the wall, and as a result all bent and twisted and full of pinch points.

The only domestic conduit i have seen is the stuff, bas mentions.

I have never met anyone thats ever Rewired via that, im sure the intended use was more to contain and protect the single cores, rather than future rewiring

I have managed to pull 1 side of a ring circuit back through slip conduit when adding an extra socket and wanting to avoid any joints.

The electrician who worked on my house when it was built must have been one of the good ones!

Usually during a rewire additional points are added & existing ones moved, so you will still have the mess
