Hey folks, I am replacing an old doorbell transformer in the garage with a new Ring version.

The ring version has output + and - and input L and N

Now, I am assuming, the L and N come from the existing isolation switch underneath existing which is currently in the old transformer. And + and - go to the existing doorbell wire (do the + and - matter on those wires which way round as I know they don't on the doorbell side?)

But the chime is inside the house, I basically want to remove it completely, picture is attached. How can I just permanently bypass / disconnect it, I read up about joining cables but any idea which ones?

Thanks in advance!

You have two pairs, one goes to door push, the other from the power supply, how they are connected depends on the using being fitted to replace it, my old hard-wired doorbell had the door push go to selected terminals as it had a different sound for front and back door. And front door you could select the tune.

But this is back in the 80s, today my door push has no wires, and my doorbells are also hubs for smart heating and lighting etc.

If one's door faces the right direction, then can use video door pushes today, seems there are strict rules to what can be captured by video door pushes, must not show anyone in neighbours property, same as any security camera, since I have no intension of fitting one, I have not looked at what the rules allow.

What I did was disconnect the chime, pull the cables back through the wall into the garage by the transformer, then just simply connect the doorbell wires to the transformer, as they were long enough, rather than joining the chime wires etc. So chime has gone and new ring din transformer is in, just need the enclosure to finish the job now!
