Removed Socket

Have you ever tried tie wrapping someone inside a portaloo? You should It'll change your whole outlook on life. The best bit is when they start banging on the door. cracks me up every time it really does.
I'm sure it does.

It would do nothing for me as I have different levels of intelligence, maturity and sophistication.

Why should I grow up?
Because advising people on electrical matters is not something to be done childishly.

What gives you the right to dictate who can and can not post on this site?
Perhaps I should ask you what gives people the right to say "take no notice of that perfectly correct advice A has given because I have taken a personal dislike to him".

seriously get a grip
I have a grip.

It is a grip on the notion that advice given here should not be flagged as no good for reasons other than those based on what the advice is.

And it is a grip which will not be loosened, no matter how hard you, or anybody else who thinks it's OK to tell someone asking for advice to ignore something correct just because they harbour a personal dislike of the person who wrote it tries.

Or, you have no sense of humour and you take you self far too seriously?

I don't give childish advise. I just like to be childish. I bet you've laughed at a knob joke one or twice.

I have never said that.

I tried, I really did but there's just no helping some folk.

I have a great sense of humour, and it's not a case of taking myself far too seriously, rather one of not finding tie-wrapping people into portaloos intelligent, mature or sophisticated.

I don't give childish advise. I just like to be childish.
And you like to support those who seek to label good advice as bad for childish reasons and you like to criticise those who object to such damaging actions.

I bet you've laughed at a knob joke one or twice.
I have.

What does that have to do with believing that advice should be given, and discussed, here with more seriousness than knob jokes?

Perhaps I should ask you what gives people the right to say "take no notice of that perfectly correct advice A has given because I have taken a personal dislike to him".

I have never said that.
Yes you have, although I accept that you may not have properly thought about the implications of your stated position.

Here you said that people who do just that, who by giving a post a thumbs down are saying "take no notice of that perfectly correct advice A has given because I have taken a personal dislike to him" should be allowed to do it without censure, without being asked to justify their behaviour. i.e. that they have the right to do it.

Here you said that you thought it was perfectly OK, amusing even, to give posts a thumbs down when you hadn't even read them.

So yes - your general attitude in what you say, in what you say others should be allowed to do, and in what you do yourself, is that it is OK to give a post a thumbs down - which is a expressing the opinion that it should not have been made, i.e. that its contents should not be here, for reasons which have nothing to do with the actual content.

I tried, I really did but there's just no helping some folk.
And I have tried, I really have, to get people to see that it is unacceptable, and should never go unchallenged, for people to vote posts down for reasons which have nothing to do with the posts, but there's just no helping some folk.

I've no doubt that BAS has a sense of humour, he's demonstrated it from time to time on various fora.

The pity of it is that his humour takes second place to his sense of outrage whenever his opinion is called into question. Such is his enormous sense of self-worth and certainty that he's always correct. I've never never known any member of any forum to post such long-winded retorts as he.

I have different levels of intelligence, maturity and sophistication.

Would that be the kind of intelligence that has led sheddy to un-wittingly offend a large number of posters over a substantial period of time, each time denying that any of the fault is his?

Would that be the kind of maturity that has provoked sheddy into allowing many of the topics he has been involved with descend into multicoloured/multi-sized font, cut and paste frenzies, littered with a gratutious number of smilies?

Would that be the kind of sophistication that has caused sheddy post links to dogging sites and post borderline pornographic photographs?

Er, hi again people...

Sorry to interrupt  I am thinking this single socket I removed was being fed off a 2 gang socket which in turn looks to be spurred from a socket.

On closer inspection all sockets in the house have two lots of cables so looks like everything else is ok. The whole electrics will be tested once all renovation work has been completed.

This forum is an invaluable resource for people like me & I hope you all manage to sort out your differences and have a pint...

Now the handbags are back where they belong we can talk.

I would strongly suggest to get the electrics looked at before you finish the renovation, what if you need to replace/rewire certain sections of the property, underneath your new wallpaper and plaster?

Rusty: The presence of two "lots of cables" at socket outlets, doesn't of itself indicate a conventional ring circuit. A radial circuit might well have two (or three) cables at a number of points - until it reaches its final outlet......

Lucia.

In other words, you can't rely completely on a former schedule stating that it's a ring-circuit, without checking it and checking whether there have been 'recent' additions.

You certainly can't rely on merely the visual indication that two cables at the socket outlets means a healthy ring circuit.....

I've never been trapped inside a Portaloo. I make sure that the door is slightly ajar and stick my foot in the gap for good measure......

Lucia.

But that's not to stop anyone shutting you in.. it's to let the noxious fumes out.

Yes, that's true. Those cabins are always a bit smelly when I enter them, but my presence, even for a short duration combined with leaving the door slightly ajar, leaves them smelling so much sweeter on account of the fact that I only smoke the best quality 'Consulate' menthol cigarettes......
