If I remove a rad to tile behind it (may be off for a week or 2!), is it ok to put the heating on so that the rest of the house is warm?

Great news. Thanks!

I thought the water would have to flow around the system and closing the rad would stop the flow.

Yes its fine.

just swittch off the lockshield and customer control valves and drain the rad.

Ensure the two rad valves arent letting by, then you're ready to tile with heating on
