Hi Guy

Im going to sand & stain my floorboards on ground floor

A couple of the boards are in poor condition and need replacing

Its a victorian property in london

Where can I get boards to replace the ones im taking up

Im not sure if they are pine or oak, if i get the wrong ones will it show after staining. How can i tell which ones I have got

THANKS

if they have knots they are pine or redwood

take your sample to your local timber merchants [not a builders merchant or the sheds like B&Q]

measure the exact width needed measure the exact lengths needed add another 3m for spare cut off 300m "sample" from your floor and write the measurements on that pointing out if the width is different to the sample

Pine is soft wood, Oak is hardwood.
Pine turns orangy when it matures, Oak turns honey colour yellow.
Oak higher grade has medullary rays, pine hasn't
