What type of switch do you have, is it a dimmer switch?

Yes I have a dimmer switch but my connector block is a three piece block. the earth wires connect to a screw on the light.

The block on the lamp has one brown wire and one blue wire connected and the a loop whole which has nothing connected to it

You need to connect the 2 red wires from the cables in the ceiling to the empty loop hole in the block. Then connect the black wire with the red sleeve to the brown wire. Then connect the black wire to the blue wire. Connect all the earth wires to the screw on the lampholder.
