Replacing a popup waste bit that's broken

I have a popup waste that doesnt work any more, and its because the horizontal bar that disappears into the plughole has broken off just beyond the ball socket (the horizontal bar as shown here, although this is not the ACTUAL popup waste concerned
)

So, do I have to buy an entire popup waste kit, and only use that one member, or can I just buy that one bar somewhere?

Thanks for the info. Dont want to remove the plughole itself, as I seem to have trouble re-sealing the damned things, so hopefully I can just use the bit that's currently broken on mine.....
