Can someone please help. We need to replace 3 panels. The posts are fine, but the panels are gone. Can someone recommend a way of doing this without lifting the panel into the fixings. Basically lifting is out of the question. We are depsarate. :(

Are these wooden posts, (in which case I presume the panels are fixed using those metal, U shaped brackets, 2 each side) or concrete slotted posts?

Hi,

I have the same question as the original poster. I want to replace all of my fence panels although the posts are fine. The fence is just tranditional lap panel wooden panels and the posts are also wood.

As the second poster mentioned, the panels are securd to the posts with 2 metal brackets on each side.

What is the best way of replacing just the panels themselves?

Also, currently there are no gravel boards protecting the fence and thus it has rotted badly at the bottom. Would if be ok to fit gravel boards to the existing posts before I fit the new panels?

Thanks

You are removing the fence panels anyway so just smash 'em up or saw through them. To get the new panels in bend the brackets out with a pair of pliers, insert panels and bend back the brackets, or tap them back with a small block of wood and a hammer. The brackets should have holes in, putting a screw through this hole into the panel will help secure the fence and reduce rattling. Gravelboards are wise. Just remember to buy the next size down fence panel.

Posts will always outlast overlap panels such as these because they are a bit pants.
