I hope I have posetd this in the right place. I have recently bought a converted flat that used to be a house (converted about 10 years ago). Most of the ceiling lights are R80 spotlights. They are problematic, expensive to run and ugly. How can I replace them with smaller halogen/LED lights when the hole is larger than the newer style lights? Will I have to have the positions re-drilled and the holes filled or can I but special adapters that will fill the hole?

I have this problem as well all over my house. In the places where I have replaced them I have filled the old holes in and repositioned the lights. To fill the holes in, cut a circle of plasterboard. Take a piece of wooden batten about 3" longer than the hole diameter and push up inside the hole so that the batten bridges from one side to the other. Use plasterboard screws to fix in place, then another screw to hold the plasterboard disc in place. Fill with filler. (I have reskimmed my ceilings as I'm not keen on Artex).
