Retirement.

I was semi retired since the age of 46. I'm currently back full time. My reason for semi retirement was simply that I didn't desire to earn more money than I could working a few months a year. I'm back full time, because with the lockdown I can't do the things I used to do with my spare time. I enjoy my work, so I may as well get paid.

I would say don't swap paid work for free work, just to keep yourself busy. Make a few hobbies pay and spend the extra dosh on the things you can't take with you.

Nice to be in that position, my works either feast or famine, sadly I've lost interest in the industry I work in, so it's either suck it up and carry on, or do something entirely different. I'm too old to retrain for anything heavy weight, so it's either carry on or do something entirely different. I have no complaints though, if you've lost interest, then there's not much you can do about it.

True..for me work was always a means to make money...I missed the boat on my dream jobs...Now time and health is so much more valuable to me than more money.

I'm semi retired. Now work 80 hours a month which is usually breaks down to a few days each week with every third weekend.
Nice and easy job, draining and re-filling about half a dozen hot tubs and getting the heat/chemical balance and general cleanliness just right. Sometimes have the odd repair/replacement but there is always someone on hand to give a little help if needed.
Hobby wise I have my gardens during the spring/summer and my wood shed during the autumn/winter or rainy days. Then of course there is the decorating or some other DIY jobs to be done, and I also find time to come on here or sit and read.
As others have said, where the hell did I find the time to work full time?

If you have lost interest then it's time to diversify otherwise you risk being stuck in a rut and hating every minute.
I changed jobs from heavy engineering to light maintenance when I was in my late 50's. Although basically the same field the work I do now is completely different to being stuck in a factory doing pro-active and reactive work. Lots and lots less stress, (as well as less money), but lots and lots more happiness. Which in it's own way is better for your health. There is truth in tha saying that once you have left you are soon forgotten about, (unless you made a monumental cock up at some time, in which case you become a legend to be talked about for generations to come. Thankfully I am one of the forgotten ones. LOL).
Look at other things that may interest you and take the plunge. It's never too late.

I’ve been semi retired for ages as I've been working a maximum of 20 hours a week for a good few years and was temporarily on just 2.5 hours a week before lockdown. Been getting a private pension for three years already although I have another 4 years to wait before the state one kicks in.

Tell her women are allowed to decorate.

.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

I've just spent 1/2 day rehanging several framed pictures my missus thought might brighten up a room. I'm sure she has one leg shorter than the other as if I tilt my head, they looked level. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

When I retired from the navy I took 6mths off and eventually got bored. The missus was still full time so we couldn't just 'get up and go'. I'm now working part time as a civil servant doing a stress free desk job which I find interesting and the crowd at work are a good bunch who enjoy regular social gatherings (pre CV19).
I have 4 grandchildren (plus additional twins on way) and my own kids keep asking when we are going to fully retire. I suspect they have ulterior childcare motives!! Whilst I love them all to bits, we're not ready to be full time baby sitters.

Not sure what financial position you are in , But I retired at 60 on a company pension, however, because it was fixed I spent some time putting together a house hold budget spreadsheet , along with a regular monthly outgoing to cover the yearly expenses , and maintain and update that every month, so i know exactly where I am financially and also use a saving account to xfer money in/out to cover the annual expenses.
I also make sure we have the best deal for Power, Car insurance, and can spend a little time looking into the best deals and often cut those expenses year on year.

I do quite a bit of DIY on na bungalow we recently moved to, my wife does most of the decorating/painting.
We also have grandchildren and so before covid, I spent at least 1 day a week looking after her.

Otherwise
Diy - ing
Garden keeping under control :) not really a gardner
I also spend quite a bit of time online, helping out on IT forums, which i moderate, and also contribute to a couple of Excel forums
Various trips out , for lunch etc
We live by the sea, so some walks along the beach
Replacing a buying new tools, hence why i often visit this forum for help and contribute

Ouch.. hope he/she will be ok!
She's feeling a bit down as she had x rays and blood tests today, damaged cruciate ligament in back leg. Just waiting for email from vet with a list of specialists.
This is her, a Goldendoodle

Thankyou..Talking to others, having hobbies is important,as is,as you say, keeping some work on..Since doing domestic work,it is interesting getting to know couples and seeing them interact at home. Some seem miserable together, yet think it correct to spend 24/7 together.Others in there 80s are as close as the day they married..God luv em.My idea is to go off biking the world and my wife will visit me then go home to see the grand kids...Hardest thing in the world to appreciate what you have at times, and the best thing in life is to love and be loved..Life so gets in the bloody way of smelling the roses.
spend your day on here trolling people like you do now.
