Hi guys
I have a Riello RDB oil burner and it has developed a leak. The burner is running fine but the oil stink in the house is bugging us all. After removing the red cover I can see that the leak is from the junction where the long thin brass pipe joins the oil pump. I've tried tightening it but it's already tight. Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this leak and whether there's anything I can do myself (as a competent mechanic) before calling out an engineer (which will take ages at this time of year). Grateful for any advice.

I guess this will be the pipe that goes to the nozzle - with an 1/8" BSP end (male) that fixes into the pump.......its very similar to brake pipe lines in cars, maybe the flare has been damaged or something.
Try heating-parts-specialists, BES or AGBO for a replacement.
John :)

Had a similar leak myself and took the burner off, dismantled the fuel union where it met the pump and it contained a tiny o-ring. I had a box of assorted o rings and found one, reinstalled and no leaks and no smell.

If you do go down this route - I figured I had nothing to lose - make sure you have the o-rings first (automotive suppliers sell them in boxes) and pick your moment: ie, not on Christmas day, shops are open, etc.

Engineer bod who I spoke to later said he would have needed to order a new oil pump to get the bit and that the oil additives eventually dissolve the seals. :(

Thanks burnerman and Mickey for that useful info. I could make that repair, either of the pipe or the o ring myself, so thanks for the tip. The only thing is, do you know if replacing either of these bits would mean resetting the pump pressure or adjusting the fuel/air mix, which I believe is necessary when replacing some parts? If so I might wait for the engineer because I think that's a specialist job

Replacement of that - or any other pipe for that matter - won't affect the oil pump pressure or air supply at all, so worry ye not.
John :)

Brilliant, thanks burnerman. I'll have a go then. Thanks very much for the help.

Sorry, just thought of one more thing. If I disconnect the oil feed pipe to replace the oil feed pipe or the o ring, do I need to bleed the oil supply after replacing it?

Yes you will do, but best wait for Burnerman to reply. I took it through a couple of start up cycles with the bleed screw partially open, until the bubbles disappeared, nipped it up and it worked fine. But, I refer you to the first sentence...

Sorry, was away a couple of days. Many thanks to you Mickey and Oilhead for those replies. I'll proceed with caution!
