Hi,
I live in the northeastern San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles) where it’s mild in the winter, hot in the summer and windy year round. I’m reviewing roofing quotes for tear-off and re-roof. Until today, all of my quotes were for Owens Corning Trudefinition Duration Cool Plus shingles, along with sufficient OC components qualify me for the Preferred Protection Warranty. All quotes are by Owens Corning Preferred contractors. Today I received a quote from a preferred Malarkey contractor, although he‘s willing to install OC. The shingles he recommended is Malarkey Highlander Cool NEX. I never heard of the brand, so I started researching them. Then I tried to compare them to OC, and found myself swimming in a sea of criticism of both products in terms of quality and longevity. My current roof has supposed 30 year shingles (I saved all paperwork) and started leaking a few months shy of 24 years. I understand that even the best shingle and components (underlayment, etc) can’t perform properly if installed poorly. The roofers that I’m considering all have in house technicians, so hopefully that will help. Any thoughts on either brand and shingle line?
Thanks in advance!
