Hi
A friend has just had a supporting wall knocked through. A structural engineer acquaintance has worked out the beam requirements, he has got a local builder to do the building work.
The building inspector wants to know the calculation for the supporting pillars. Which he does not have, as the structural engineer did the calculation as a favour and he is now unable to ask.
The supporting pillars are 3 inch brick from the previously existing wall. What is the calculation to work out what weight these pillars can take? We just need to know if we should be getting another SE in to check that the initial guidance was correct.
Any comments from structural engineers would be most helpful.
