Hi all,

Amateur here. The horizontal pipe labelled in image, part of kitchen sink waste, is leaking. The connection is poor between the pipe itself and the bit which goes under the strainer (and frankly, the connection at the other end of the pipe leaks too).

Does an appropriate washer need to be put in? I’ve bought packets from B&Q but none seem to fit. (“Trap seal replacement kit” etc) I’m pretty sure there weren’t any washers on the pipe before though.

Also, the plastic ‘nut’ on the horizontal pipe can’t be removed (see images) – so you can’t take it off and then lay a washer on the pipe, and screw the nut so that it compresses it. All I’ve been able to do is sort of try jamming some of the washers into the thread itself…

Cheers,

John

Isn't there a white coloured seal stuck up inside the bottom of the sink waste ?
By the way , your two appliance waste hoses should point downward onto the spigots. The spigots should point upward ,not downward .

Ah yes! there was a white washer stuck in there. Thanks, hopefully just pulling that back into position should stop leak. Regarding the appliance waste hoses, is the point you're making that the pipe on the left of this image is correct and the one on the right incorrect?

Don't over tighten the fitting onto the 'strainer' (waste). Make sure the fittings and seal are dry and then it just need to be tight enough to sandwich the seal in between the fittings, any tighter and it will push the seal up into the waste again.
