Hi
I’ve removed an old shower bar to replace with new but the connection looks to be about 25mm, my new bar has (what I believe to be) the standard 20mm. Can anyone tell from the pic whether this looks like an adapter placed on top of a standard 20mm thread. I’ve tried budging it in vein (albeit with an adjustable spanner, not a socket). It’s covered in tile adhesive so I can’t tell whether that’s what’s preventing me from removing it or if it’s because it’s all one piece. Any advice much appreciated.

It looks like a dog leg connector to me

That's an odd fitting as it doesn't look like it's designed to take a flat washer (it doesn't have a flat face on the threads).
Normally they're just standard 3/4 BSP/
