Hi

I im just in the process of finishing redecorating my bathroom, I've just fitted a Manrose Gold 150, it replaced another manrose fan which was there when I bought the house this fan was coming to the end of its life and was not working as it should have been and its was smaller in diameter and I wanted a larger one that would remove more steam when the shower was in operation (which is over the bath) as it used to get very steamy in there.
However after fitting it I read the information that came with it and it said that these fans are not recommended to be used near a shower unit I only fitted it as there was already one there and I though it would be fine, its obviously to late to send it back now and I also have made the hole in the wall larger now to accommodate this fan. is there any way I could put a safety feature into the wiring that would cause the fan to cut out if it did short or get wet or what ever, its just for peace of mind. I've spent out on redecorating my bathroom and I cant afford to buy another fan and just discard this one its too late to send it back now.

Thanks for any help.

I've included a few photos just so you can see where I am.

No you haven't.

1) What zone is the fan in?

2) Is it SELV?

3) What is it's IP rating?

4) Are you aware of Part P of the Building Regulations?

If you don't know the answers to those questions then you really shouldn't be doing electrical work in bathrooms....

Your house has one big safety feature that does this. Its called a consumer unit fitted with appropriately rated fuses/mcbs, and if your lucky, an RCD. Also there should be an FCU fitted with a 3 amp fuse somewhere near your fan. No other "safety features" should be required.
