hi. i'm looking for some advice. My intention is tp build a small detached garage or storage area. The dimension 14ft X 8ft.My question is whether single block walls would be ok if it has a pitched roof. There would be small gable ends. The roof would be covered with man made slate.Obviously trere would be joists binding walls together but would block on its belly be recommended.

A block garage will be ok laid conventionally.

I would recommend strengthening the walls at any returns i.e at the garage door and any other single door openings. This can be done by building a 215mm x 440mm pillar or similar.

A midspan pillar may also be useful along the long sides.

So long as you build the roof with triangulation, i.e. using a joist as opposed to an open roof, then all will be ok.

Thanks noseall. just to confirm,by conventional you mean 4" inch block laid upright ,right?
