And after the surgeons have saved another life, they can sit down and relax while watching Slack Bladder.

Is it just me or are the current programs carp? have we been to spoilt in the past with the likes of Open all Hours, Porrige, Fawlty Towers, Ab Fab, Bottom, Only Fools & Horses, Brittas Empire etc. etc. the only thing I think half decent is Not Going Out.

I have to say that such honours are meaningless these days. There seems to be little logic, apart from political correctness, in who they are awarded to.

I'm sure that some are awarded to the 'highest bidder' whilst others go to various people that the powers-that-be think will keep the general population happy.

Instead of presenting it to him at Buck Palace, they could hide it in a field somewhere in the UK and get Time Team to search for it.

Not Going Out is funny...but I also enjoyed Outnumbered...very well written but unfortunately not feasible for another series as the kids have shot up and the 'out of the mouth of babes' factor would be lost.

He lives in Bristol and people that have met him are not impressed, he can be a bit curt, no time for anyone.

Is what I've heard..

Black adder was a brilliant creation, but I agree, it's not worthy of this kind of award... if anything, the writiers made the show what it was. But as has been mentioned before, why aren't we lamenting the proper heroes of this country?

I have a photo on my Face Book, it shows two photo's, one of our glorious football hero's returning home after another thrashing by some nondescript football team, they are disembarking from some !st class airliner after being separated from their loved ones for a week or so.

The second photo is of our fallen soldiers being carried off a Hercules transport at RAF Lynham after loosing their lives fighting in Afghanistan where they were doing a SIX month tour of duty away from their loved ones.

Unfortunately, being a techno phoebe I am not capable of downloading the photo.

I suppose different people define the word 'hero' differently.

Shoot !!! picked the wrong word there !!!! Doh!!!

Didn't mean lament at all.... I actually meant recognise, reward, appreciate etc etc

(apologies !!)

Wiki is only a click away Joe - presumably you thought he was given the honour for being Rowan Atkinsons stooge in BA?

Politics and personal life

Robinson and his former wife Mary Shepherd were active in Bristol Labour politics from the early 1980s.

From 1996 to 2000, he was vice-president of the actors' union Equity, helping with a huge restructuring programme which turned a £500,000 deficit into a small surplus.[11] He continues to work within Equity. In 2000 he was elected to the Labour Party's National Executive Committee, a position he held to 2004.[4]

He was also active in the "Make Poverty History" campaign during early 2005, in the lead-up to the G8 summit in Scotland, and is the patron for UK-based charity Street Child Africa.

In March 2011, Robinson participated in the 'March for the Alternative' protests in Central London, which opposed the Conservative led Coalition UK Government's spending cuts programme.[12]

In 2006 he appeared in Tony Robinson: Me and My Mum, a documentary surrounding Robinson's decision to find a nursing home for his mother, and the difficulty he had with doing so. The documentary showed his mother's death in the home. It also featured stories from other families in similar situations. It appeared as part of Channel 4's short season of programmes entitled The Trouble With Old People.

He previously supported the football clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City, but now supports Championship side Bristol City.[13] He also follows Spanish Liga BBVA side Valencia, often spending his holidays in the country.[14]

He is honorary president of the Young Archaeologists' Club of the Council for British Archaeology.[15] Robinson has shown his support for the Burma Campaign UK, an NGO that aims to highlight human rights violations in Burma under the State Peace and Development Council.

He is a big fan of the rock band Genesis and provided sleeve notes for the reissue of the album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway as part of the Genesis 1970–1975 box set.[16]

In late 2009 he was invited to be guest speaker at the Pride of Craegmoor Awards, where he gave a speech about his time with his mother and finding a care home. He then went on to give the prizes to Craegmoor's Shining Star and Leading Light.

Robinson married Louise Hobbs on 24 June 2011.[17]

Robinson was knighted in the 2013 Birthday Honours for public and political service.[18][19]

Robinson was quoted as saying "I’ll use my new title with abandon to highlight the causes I believe in, particularly the importance of culture, the arts and heritage and the plight of the infirm elderly and their carers," adding, “I also pledge that from this day on I’ll slaughter all unruly dragons, and rescue any damsels in distress who request my help.” [20]

Oh I see. He likes Genesis and can't make up his mind about his football club.

Yup. Knight him.

Just another champagne socialist, not often you find one with conviction, he is no different.
