Further to recent topics how many of you holier than thou corgi guys have done work that in theory is illegal because you dont have that tricket or where not reggistered at the time or are you all that honest.. Here goes total ignore or removal when honest question asked

have worked out of scope plenty of times, not one registered installer i know has not.
prime example is testing/extending an existing line, technically unless you hold met one you should not touch/ disconnect the meter unless competent.

I do hold MET1 but siting your CCN1 means you are competent to remove the gas meter to carry out pipework. This is why as part of the assessment you have to demonstrate this in the pipework element. ( I own an assessment centre and IV for others ).

( I own an assessment centre and IV for others ).very good so you are partly responsible for some of the untrained clowns masquerading as competent people

How with out knowing somebody you can make a sweeping coment like that amazes me and shows your narrowminded ignorance. I take it you are not registered with CORGI. I can honestly say anybody I have reccomended passes an assessment has proved their competence on the day.

I think the public should be aware there are a lot of unqualified people giving out dangerous advise, and a lot of qualified people giving out FREE advice with the emphasis on safety.

Comments from people from Numpty will only lead to qualified people not giving advise. I for one am very tempted only to post in the "Combustion Chamber" and before Numpty asks yes I am Corgi registered as an independant gas engineer as well as an assessor .

How else do you feel people can prove competence without sitting assessments.
Are you still registered.
I am a hardworking tradesperson as well.
And no wouldn't want to see you banned.
We also stress to candidates holding an ACS qual doesn't mean you know everything and does not guarantee CORGI membership as after sitting an ACS qual they are still checked by a CORGI inspector.
Sorry if you have had a bad expierience with an assessment centre, but we are not all bad

no never had a bad experience with a training/accessment centre.the way forward is continual training relevant to fields you work in ,not a turn up tick box and pass as it is now.
oh yes am still registered
as for inspections by corgi you must be joking they take the money and run :x
as for learning new tasks/tech have been doing that all my working life and still do not know the quarter of it,but i am prepared to learn.

I agree with the CORGI bit although as a centre we are trying to work with our local inspector. I agree continual training would be a good way forward, but nobody likes training. All I can say is people do not come to our centre and tick a few boxes to pass, we also refuse to assess some we do not feel are ready to sit the assessment...I can't speak for all centres.. :)

What is this continual training you feel necessary? Got any constructive ideas on how what you want could be paid for? As I'm sure you know training on new products is free at the manufacturers.

Are driving instructors leeches on the back of the motorist?

Im honest enough to say yes, I have,,,, and technically while I was waiting for my card I still worked ,, am I bad ??

Why are some of you so anti RGI??

As an RGI I'm on here for 1 reason only,,,,,,,,to show the general public that we are not rogues,, but are normal people with the knowledge that the law states you should have to competently work in their homes safely!!

What are you all going to do when it becomes compulsory for every home owner to show a service record for their boiler/appliances??
Im sure we will become your best friends again

The law is the law and we as RGI's abide by them on the whole !!!!

CCN1 is the basic safety we all have as RGI's ..

RGI bashing wont help anybody, and if the Drivels of this world are allowed to continue then as above was said, the RGI will stop giving his valuable FREE advice on sites like this !!

chris i have no problem paying for specific training all my quals are paid for by myself[updates the co i work for pay for them]
a loose leaf binder that contains relevant tech information with annual updates would not be a bad start from the holder of the register
not all training is free chris move up to commercial and some of the costs are heavy.

driving instructors teach you a new skill.training establishments teach you the answers that are fed into a pda right or wrong?

The Training you're going to get at an ACS centre isn't meant to convey as much as an apprenticeship. You're supposed to have experience before you go to the ACS centres. At "mine" we only take refreshers, and those already working with someone on gas, so the training is heavy on the basics which people tend to forget, and the new stuff, and points out the things we know Corgi are likely to ask you.

So-
training establishments teach you the answers that are fed into a pda right or wrong?
In my case/experience, Wrong. And not a PDA in site.

I'll ask again - who's going to pay for the extended training you want?

Doctor Drivel, by the way, has been banned from this site, according to Mod in CC.
