So we missed our target of 25k tests per day

I cant ever understand why politicians declare targets, they only offer a stick with which to beat them with.

to win the support of credulous supporters?

The government spent 16,000,000 on tests from China which didn't work.
Can't see them reaching their target when they buy crap from China.
While the UK has good expertise in diagnostics, the industry itself is small compared to other countries.
Instead of relying on dodgy stuff from the likes of China, the UK should be building up its own medical industries.

When did the last Morris Ital roll off the production line...
Is this an ambulance? specsavers is open i think.

Wonderful piece of reporting. They bought some knowing that the makers declared 90% accuracy and pre ordered loads more hoping that would improve as 90% isn't seen as being good enough. Loads are working on an improvement. It tricky as many people will have immunity to a coronavirus and it needs to pick up a particular one. Even a TV reported tested as immune when he was sure he hadn't had it. ;) if that aspect is even possible but he wasn't young.

Behind that is a comment that they may have to be used anyway.

The UK used to lead the world in manufacturing.
They used to produce iconic legends like the reliant robin and the mini Metro
Thanks for highlighting the relevance my nostalgia post. Charlie won't get it though. The dummy keeps babbling on about Specsavers.

China UK production ended in 1984. I use the word production in the loosest possible sense. More sort of thrown together

reliant robin and the mini Metro
+ Rolls Royce, Aston Martin etc

although hardly yer average motor

Rolls Royce are an engineering great in jet engines -we can certainly be proud of that.

And the Sunderland Nissan plant is one of the most efficient in the world -it is or at least was the most productive car plant in Europe.

Nothing at all to do with testing but at least CV19 and pointless posts give some idea of the UK's true capabilities.

Wonder if you know that several clothes companies withdrew an orders for a few million quids worth of garments recently from Bangladesh when they could have asked them to switch to gowns. Also when their country does need work and money.

Ive just seen on channel 4 news a UK manufacturer that is making disposable face shields -cost £0.55p they are making 100,000 a week and can increase that to 500,000. We didnt have to be short of PPE

back to testing, league table here:

Need to define test though, what constitutes a test varies from country to country.
