Hi, what is the purpose of the solenoid coil mounted on a brass armature on the side of the Riello oil pump in my Potterton Statesman boiler. I believe it operates a valve in the pump, but would like to know why, when and how.

Thanks

The solinoid is to let the oil under high pressure to the nozzle. Depending on the type some shut the valve allowing the oil through others open the valve for the same reason. If the coil goes down no heat whatever.
