Be fine …as long as it will fit size wise ..they are made up of flat button cells , 5 in 6v version 6 in a 7.2 and 7 in a 8.4 ….each being 1.2v they are only about 3mm extra per cell
What bell box is it ?

Reson 8. Pretty sure it will fit. What is the benefit of 7.2v verses the original 6v?

I have fitted a new 6v NiMh battery and replaced the panel 12v battery. Everything looks good until I reconnect the panel mains power when the sounder, rather than the alarm sound, emits a loud beep, beep, beep. It is not as ear-piercing as the alarm, but certainly annoyingly loud as if it is a warning signal.

I don't intend to fiddle with anything as the only things I have done is replace the respective batteries; no wiring has been altered whatsoever. Although the sounder battery is new, without mains power, presumably, it will not charge? But with mains, there is this beeping.

What is the next thing to look at?

Thanks

Pretty much the same price as they all appear to be; £19.33. Like everything, Made in China. I tested and it is reading 6v, but so is the old one.

The sounder beeping is quite loud, somewhat an electronic warning beep and is around two per second. Research does indicate that the sounder is telling me that the battery is dodgy or needs charging. If the later, is it normal to be charging it while it beeps? How long is that likely to be?

Could have purchased a complete new bellbox for not much more …I have known the Honeywell AG6 bellbox bleep,if the nicad is flat ! You could try disconnecting the piezo sounder and leave it powered up for a few days to charge , then see if it bleeps

Managed to find an unused Reson 8 bell box, on eBay. The 6v battery only measures 4.4v so installed the 6v battery I bought as a replacement Wish I could report that everything is fine, but no.

The same 'kinda' warning beep happens. Did some checking and found that the entire system appears to operate just fine when the mains is not connected; i.e it seems to be working on the batteries.

But connect the mains, the alarm operates, enter my code, the alarm stops but the loud warning beep continues from the sounder.

Reinstalled the original and did the same tests with the same result. On the mains, the external sounder warning beep. Guess the sounder is not the issue but but I have done nothing to the control panel apart from replacing the 12v battery.

And yes, I did ensure that the tampers were engaged!!! There is an initial Tamper Lockout message on the RKP but User Reset clears the message. Set the alarm with the batteries and the PIRs are working to activate the alarm. Turn off with my code and it is all quiet. But once the mains fuse is engaged and the user code entered to stop the alarm, I am left with the sounder making this warning beep beep beep.

What should I look at next?

Thanks

PS: Given that he new sounder battery is probably quite old, never been used but registering 4.4v, can I use my electronic car charger which does have a 6v option to give the battery a boost?

Not really as I could not see a piezo component. The only sound producing item is the sounder itself which I think is a large piezo.

Since starting this endeavour we have not had a working alarm and I really don't know where to go next.

All I know for certain is, a new external sounder has not solved the issue so presumably, it is nothing to do with the sounder.
But the panel works just fine on batteries alone, the warning (very loud beep beep beep from the external sounder, not the normal alarm siren) only occurs when I insert the mains fuse.

Presumably something on the panel board is causing a fault. But I know nothing about how to find and/or resolve electronic issues.

The alternatives, I could spend a small fortune to engage an engineer who will probably tell me that I need a new control panel. In which case, I may as well buy one anyway and fit it myself.

Any further suggestions most welcome.

Did a factory reset but that has not stopped the beeping when the mains is on.

Also checked the AC voltage with power off and on. Meter on AC, pos probe to12v DC, neg to mains earth and check with mains off and on.

In the photo, the mains earth is arrowed; the AC reading with mains off at 1,2,3 4 are .26, .26 .26 and .26

With mains on, the readings are .27, .27, .21 and .36

Not being an electrics expert, I have no idea what these readings imply. Grateful for some enlightenment.

Thanks
