Is it too much to ask for anybody living in a country, rather than being on two week holiday, to make an effort to integrate and speak the damn language?

Why should it need a special programme in the first place. Surely anyone migrating wants to integrate? Surely.

Hmmm, when I woke up this morning, I really thought I did wake up in the UK (most spoken language,, English) The second most spoken language in the world. The internationally recognised language of air traffic control. Cameron should invest 20 million into our bloody schools, not into some hairbrained scheme. I'm off to Tenerife on holiday in a few weeks and have already learnt some useful Spanish phrases ... "Una cerveza por favour",,,,,, "Puedo tener chips con que",,,,,,," Dónde está el bar",,,,,,,,"El clima es estupendo, otra cerveza por favor ". ( I learnt these from simply watching re-runs of Dora the Explorer)

So you see, I'm prepared ...

And how does that affect me and other UK taxpayers?

For comparison, the UK spends over £100 million. Not one, one hundred million.

Not at all Himaginn, me and the wife are looking forward to our holiday, so I will be buying two drinks at each visit to a bar (but she doesn't drink anything as weak as San Miguel)

I'm not changing a thing. I just naturaly assumed that people on a UK forum would instrinctively know I was talking about the UK, rather than some random foreign country that could conveniently be drafted in to support a diversionary comment.

So just for clarity, this thread is about the UK. People living in the UK or coming to the UK.

And you don't think that migrants to any other country should learn the language of that country?

I suppose some people with a very restricted world outlook might assume that.
